Artist Statement – October 2020 (Zoom Dispositions)
Artist Statement – October (Zoom Dispositions) is a video virtual background used during Zoom gatherings. Thrusting physical private spaces into virtual public spaces risks exposing secret details of personal life, but also allows for the adoption of personas through the performativity of things. Objects are both unintentionally exposed and intentionally exhibited. Using the bookcase background, remnants of private life leak into shared spaces and curated forms of cultural capital are displayed in various social contexts.
